Conditions Commonly Treated

Low Back Pain

This is the most common reason patients seek chiropractic care. Most low back pain is the result of a mechanical problem and therefore needs a mechanical correction (as opposed to chemical solution i.e. drugs). Subluxation or misalignment of the lumbar vertebra or pelvis is often the cause and will only resolve with correction by chiropractic care. At Short Chiropractic we offer a variety of methods and will customize treatment just for you!

The sciatic nerve is the largest peripheral nerve in the body. Your's is about the same circumference as your pinky finger. It is formed from the spinal nerves of the lumbar spine and emerges from the pelvis in the buttocks and travels down the back of the leg. Anything that irritates or brings pressure to bear on these spinal nerves or the sciatic nerve itself can cause pain along this nerve or any of its branches and is termed "sciatica". At Short Chiropractic, a thorough exam will be performed to determine the underlying cause so we can customize treatment to target and eliminate the pain. See decompression therapy.

Numbness & Tingling

Numbness and tingling can have a variety of causes in metabolic issues; however, the most common cause is a "pinched" nerve. Nerves can get "pinched" as they exit the spine between vertebra. Peripheral nerves can also become "pinched" at numerous locations. The best known example is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. A thorough history and examination is needed to determine the exact site of nerve pressure so treatment can target the cause of the numbness or tingling. Short Chiropractic offers treatment called Spinal Decompression for spinal nerves that are "pinched". Peripheral nerves can become entrapped by various tissue (muscle, tendons, fascia). At Short Chiropractic, we offer Active Release Technique to free nerves from surrounding soft tissues to relieve the numbness or tingling.

What a "pain in the neck"! If you have ever had neck pain, you understand this phrase. Neck pain can be disabling and finding the cause of the pain is essential to proper treatment. At Short Chiropractic a thorough history and examination aided by digital x-rays help us to identify the cause and target it with various forms of treatment. Your personalized plan of care may include a combination of: special adjustment, ultrasound therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, spinal decompression, Active Release Technique, instrument-assisted adjusting and/or massage therapy.

Arm Pain

Radiating arm pain is most commonly the result of the irritation (pinching) of a nerve as it exits the lower cervical spine (neck) to travel down the arm. Numbness, tingling, and even weakness can develop along with the pain if the pressure on the nerve is bad enough. A thorough exam including digital x-rays can determine the exact level of the cervical spine causing the problem. At Short Chiropractic, we can personalize a treatment program from the variety of options available including disc decompression and flexion-distraction manipulation to target the cause of your pain.

Headaches and migraines are one of the most common reasons people visit the doctor. There are several ways that dysfunction in the cervical spine can cause headaches and migraines. Often irritation of nerves in the upper neck that travel all the way to the forehead will cause a headache that starts in the back of the head and progress to the font. Posture and alignment issues can result in muscle tension at the base of the skull causing head pain. At Short Chiropractic, we have found that over 80% of the time a customized program of treatment targeting the cervical spine and related musculature can greatly reduce or eliminate migraines or headaches.

The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) sits just in front of the ear. TMJ dysfunction causes a variety of symptoms, including:

  • joint/jaw pain

  • popping/clicking

  • inability to open your mouth fully

  • painful chewing

  • altered bite

  • ear ache

  • clenching/grinding teeth

  • facial numbness/tingling

At Short Chiropractic, we offer a variety of treatments including ultrasound, Active Release Technique, and gentle manipulation

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a peripheral neuropathy wherein the median nerve gets compressed most commonly as it passes through the tunnel to enter the palm surface of the hand. The primary symptom is numbness of the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and half the ring finger. At Short Chiropractic we utilize a variety of treatments including ultrasound therapy, manipulation of the wrist, splinting, and Active Release Technique to reduce or eliminate the pain and numbness without the need for surgery.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis is a condition marked by pain in the heel and arch of the foot. Typically, the pain is worst upon first standing or after being on your feet too long. Good shoes/orthotics, stretching and ice can help, but when this is not enough , Short Chiropractic offers a variety of modalities of treatment including: ultrasound therapy, Active Release Technique, and Graston Technique.

Chiropractic care is an essential component for a healthy nervous system. If we are only thinking of chiropractic care when we have back pain, we are missing vital information of what chiropractic care actually does.We are affected by chemical stressors from foods and the environment that are filtered through our organs, mental stress with work and raising families, and physical stress from our daily activities. Pain is our last indicator to show up as a warning signal that our nervous system is experiencing an adverse event and is struggling to cope with it. Proper spinal alignment increases your body’s ability to adapt to stressors and decreases cell degeneration. Have your chiropractor check your spinal alignment on a monthly basis to ensure that your body is communicating at its optimal level to handle stress that may be thrown your way.
