Barboursville Chiropractor Celebrates 20 Years of Practice and Serving the Community
Barboursville, WV – Brett A. Short, D.C., is a native West Virginian who chose to remain in the Mountain State to live, work and give back to the community. In March he began celebrating his 20th anniversary of professional practice.
Dr. Short studied pre-medicine at Marshall University and received his Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He earned certification in X-Ray/Radiographic study and interpretation, and mastered many advanced chiropractic techniques. Upon completing his chiropractic program, Dr. Short immediately returned to his home state to begin his career.
Dr. Short started offering chiropractic services March 1, 1991, and eight years later opened his own clinic, Short Chiropractic. His office is located at 99 Cracker Barrel Drive, Barboursville. Chiropractor George Knipp also practices there. The office number is (304) 733-4616 and the website is www.shortchiro.com,
“My professional and personal goals have been to help as many people as I can by providing a variety of effective treatment options at an affordable price, as well as to promote health, wellness and improve quality of life for residents in our region,” Dr. Short said.
Dr. Short takes a decidedly holistic approach to his life. As a Doctor of Chiropractic he cares for patients by treating neck, back, leg and arm pain, numbness and tingling, headaches and joint problems. He also offers exercise programs, lifestyle, nutrition and weight loss counseling, as well as community presentations and workshops.
As a local resident, Short has tried to support the community and encourage wellness to fellow residents through his annual 5k race, which usually attracts more than 200 participants, as well as fundraising projects for school supplies for area students, an annual (13 years so far) Thanksgiving food drive and ongoing support for the Huntington City Mission and the Golden Girls Group Home.
Dr. Short also is active in his profession, serving as a member of the West Virginia Chiropractic Society, the American Chiropractic Association, a diplomat with the Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and a member of the speaker's bureau. Short also serves as an independent medical examiner for the West Virginia Workers Compensation Fund.
Since opening his own office in 1998, Dr. Short has developed a special interest in difficult cases such as bulging or ruptured disc and spinal stenosis. He trained and has been certified in Cox Flexion Distraction Technique and recently became a Certified Decompression Therapy Practitioner. Both of these credentials let patients know that Dr. Short has the expertise to handle difficult cases and the knowledge to refer to other specialists when needed. This is one reason Dr. Short works well with area medical physicians including surgeons.
Dr. Short said, "One of the most rewarding changes I've noticed in the past 20 years of practice is the number of referrals from the medical community. We receive a couple referrals each week on average. That's more than I would get in six months in 1991."
